Saying goodbye....

An angel flew away today back into the heavens to our Father. An angel so sweet, caring and loving that all lives she touched glowed with something indescribable, something pure and joyous. All that knew her, whether it was her closest friends and family, or those who shared conversations with her at church or school, understand what I am saying. The heavens are shedding tears as the rain patters steadily outside just as we are mourning the loss of someone truly special and beautiful. Although we may never understand the reason why, it is easy to throw up our defence and spin denial, anger, confusion , The concept that life is unfair seems to be proven in such times, as how is it that I may be here typing this whilst she.... How can someone so good be taken away? And so easily....Though we take comfort she is smiling that same contagious smile up in heaven. I remember just last week she was teasing me and a friend to come to choir more often.

It’s amazing how such a small frame of time can change your life, your perception on everything you thought you knew. How witnessing such a shocking thing can make you appreciate what you have – your family, friends, health, home, love, a future, chances and simply life itself - as well as reassess what you believe you need or want. Seeing all those people today, despite the language barrier, congregating together and praying for her and her family, it made me realize just how special she was, how much she meant to each and every one of us and how she was able to make us feel blessed by merely knowing her.

Such a soul is a rare thing to find in this world, and I feel blessed to have known her, and so at the same time, it pains me to that I will never see her again, never hear her speak, see her play around and tease the little ones at church, never see her smile again. But my loss is so seemingly miniscule compared to what her parents and family, and closest friends are going through, and so I pray for them that they might find strength, hope, courage and salvation in the Lord. It was, it IS after all, her deepest wish.

But as this angel unfitting in our ugly world has been called back to His side, I hope that her dream of spreading God’s word will live on inside of us.

We will always remember you. We will always love you. We will always miss you.

What keeps us waiting?

The night of the meteor shower I did wake up at 3am, and despite it still being mostly overcast with clouds, despite knowing there was a miniscule chance of seeing anything, despite not even knowing what I was looking for or what it looked like, I stayed. Yes, I know it sounds stupid, but I don’t know what made me stay.

What keeps us waiting? I suspect that it is the very thing that makes life both complicated and simple - Hope.

When it seems that you have nothing left, when life has stripped you of everything you ever wanted, you ever cherished or you ever valued, hope can often be all that you have left. Yet whatever glimmer is possessed, though sometimes too small and fragile to even believe that it is still there, it nevertheless continues to burn inside of us, fuelling our hearts to keep on trying and searching. It is this notion of choosing to believe despite all the odds, this notion that maybe, just maybe, it could happen if we try hard enough and things might change, this notion that somehow life will turn around, that truly make us human. Fundamentally, human wisdom is that we wait and we hope.

It can be tested, it can flicker like a candle in the wind, but hope never abandons us, we only abandon it. But with its help, we are able to achieve our greatest dreams, or guide others in theirs. Only with hope, can we become the change we seek in this world, and in ourselves. Because only with hope, do we see a chance, a possibility. Maybe that’s why we hold onto it so hard.

Also I know some people say you couldn’t see a thing, but let me have this moment of awe. I saw what I saw. And now, either curiosity or anticipation drives me next time to show you that such miracles of nature can be seen and witnessed. Maybe we’ll be luckier and see something more. But for now, this is all I need.

Don't lose hope. When it gets darkest the stars come out.
Hope is a state of mind, not of the world. Hope, in this deep and powerful sense, is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously heading for success, but rather an ability to work for something because it is good.-- Unknown.

THE LEONID METEOR SHOWER!!!!

So who wants to come join me and watch :) Don’t miss out on this chance! Besides, who doesn’t wanna see a shooting star? ;)

The Leonid meteor shower (3 guesses on what constellation it’s named after :P) occurs once every 33 years from about 14 to 20 November as the Earth passes through an old debris stream left by past passages of the comet Temple-Tuttle. The Leonids are fast meteors that enter Earth's atmosphere at speeds of over 250,000 km per hour and leave lots of trains and often contain a large number of very bright meteors, whose trains can last for several minutes.

The best time to look for these Leonid meteors is 3–5am (though it techniquelly can happen any time after midnight) on the morning of the 18th (AKA VERY SOON!!!!) So for us Eastern states, you should look North East at about 45 degrees up into the dark sky. The peak will eventuate at about 3-4:00AM for Victorians :) But as you can’t rush the universe, it’s estimated that only ten to a dozen or so come every hour,(thank you maths, you’ve finally came in handy :P) that you’ll so that means you’ll have to wait on average 6 minutes between each meteor. That said, the advantage is they’re all coming from the same region of sky, which means you can just lie back and watch. ^^ So rug up, do something new and see something that is simply remarkable.

MUCK UP DAY!
Year after year, on the same fateful day, I remember gathering at recess to gaze in amazement at the pool of previous yr 12’s and laughing at all their antics whilst simultaneously trying to avoid targeted for one of their pranks throughout the day. But now, NOW after 13 long years of following rules (well most of the time), wearing uniform and the day to day routine, it was finally our turn to let loose in a glitter and fun filled day of chaos and craze. For the first time, we even had music pumping in the school grounds which had set up a great atmosphere that matched our hyped up nature (who needs drinks when you have sugar and hormones for that natural high? :P) and it was really helpful drowning out the cries of some unlucky junior that got taped to a pole so co ords didn’t hear. Much. ^^ Speaking of the senior coordinators.... I think I may have been officially scarred for life....It was after all the first thing I saw besides the two AWESOME statues that freaked out the slightly(?) slow lil yr 7’s when they moved, ah their faces were priceless :P But seriously. Never. Ever. Again do I want to ever associate with them. Two words. Just two words. Cross dressing. *shudder* I swear if any girl wore a dress as short as what Mr. Gray or Tatnall wore, we would’ve copped a detention -.-“ oh the irony....haha what a way to start the day!
But armed with a camera and bow and arrow (mwhahaha well the Greek goddess Artermis just isn’t herself without her weapon is she? ;) the first challenge was to survive the initial photo spree posing with prostitutes, (JAPANESE prostitutes to be precise :P hehehe) pirates, sailors, superheros, gangsters/mafia, countless movie characters (e.g. Edna n Monopoly man/woman!), frogs, cats and even KFC man! (who was hiding all but chicken in his bucket thing :P) Photos aside, what would muck up day be without a couple, or a lot, of well meaning(?) pranks 0:) A couple worth mentioning included:
- Crashing a particulars class room after dragging a couple people from my spesh class (yes people ACTUALLY turned up to spesh, God knows y, despite the fact that the room smelt like tomato sauce and paint AND having the teacher we had....) Oh did I mention that we (all 5 of us) threw tennis balls at our human target whilst their class cheered us on before laughing hysterically and running off :) Ah, one of THE highlights of my day....
- The glitter fairies – that gave both student and teachers’ hair (or lack there of) a healthy blue sparkle.... To this day, if you look closely, you can still see the mark they’ve left in all their blue glittery glory in n around the school :P
- Glad wrap taping/handcuffing people to poles (getting out was another story or problem depending on how smart you were :P)
- Trashing Imam’s desk with “TSAR”
- Although not exactly a prank, but the many “thoughtful” reminders of our fav quotes: “We all drowned in the VCE pool” (why didn’t any1 throw us a floaty?!) and “Swinburne for the win!”
- Toilet paper streamers in the girls bathroom
-
Ah the memories....Though as the day wore on, the fever eventually simmered down to just mucking round peppered with moments of priceless laughs from drawing on our human canvas with black charcoal :) LOL you know who you are, having an attempt at archery (we had plenty of targets 0:) ) to simply chatting with friends as each tried to prolong the day by not going home (surprisingly you CAN have a normalish conversation coz you get to look past the massive animal heads and masks after a while) For now, I’ll just bombard you with a few out of the million photos....

Group + Ms. Chan (class crashing 0:) )
